Original title: Is it possible to upload a new mod version that informs users but that doesn't forcefully update?

See title. I would very much like to overhaul some of my mods to make use of new Penumbra features and improve the implementation of the options, but I'm quite hesitant to do so, especially for my older ones, where changing the option groups would cause breaking changes for existing mod associations in Glamourer designs. I've thought about using Variants for it, but it doesn't feel like a properly intended or supported use of the feature.

I know it's a very niche thing to worry about, but I use mod associations extensively, and if I was a mod user who suddenly had a bunch of designs break due to an update, I would be very very sad (even if I would eventually update and fix the designs anyway)

No, it's not possible. I also will not make this possible: users should be in control of mod updates. If a user doesn't want automatic updates, they should turn them off, but creators should not be able to make that decision for users.

Also, Heliosphere will notify about breaking changes, and users can install the old version so long as you haven't deleted it.

A better (partial) solution to this would be allowing/disallowing automatic updates per mod. What do you think about that?
 
I think toggling automatic updates per mod would likely end up being more troublesome than useful personally, but it sounds like the functionality I want is already in the system and I just wasn't aware of it!
As long as users are notified that the update they're about to get would break their designs before they install it and can back out, I'm more than happy :)

It only notifies of breaking changes after they're installed, but I could modify it to be a prompt.
 
I'd be very happy if it could get modified to be a prompt! thank you for the support and all the work you've done to make Heliosphere :)
 
Just so you know, this is not likely to happen soon, as it will be a substantial amount of work.
 
Users can now choose to opt individual mods in or out of automatic updates. Preventing automatic updates with a prompt if there are breaking changes is still on the todo list.
