one thing i've personally ran into a few times, is that after making changes to a modpack and exporting the new version for HS upload, i've forgotten to actually change the version number before getting over to heliosphere. if possible, i'd like a change that:
  • continues to warn the user when the uploaded modpack matches an already-uploaded version
  • if HS detects that files in the modpack have changed since the previous version,
    • notify the user (It looks like your modpack has changed since version x.x.x!)
    • offer the option of bumping the version and uploading under that new version (Would you like to upload as version x.x.x+1? Y/N)
no clue how feasible that form of checking & updating would be, or whether it could backfire as the modder's copy will now have its version # out of sync with HS' copy until they manually update it.

I don't want to do this because it adds inconsistencies. Especially if you release on other platforms, this will make Penumbra show version a.b.c for the PMP but a.b.c+1 for Heliosphere, for example, even if they're both actually the same version. This is annoying for both users and creators, and I've personally seen this drag out troubleshooting.

Creators should use the packaging software to edit package metadata like version, not the publishing software. I understand this would be convenient, but I think it would be a mistake to encourage doing this.
