posting about my oddly specific issue here as requested:

when browsing the website, any page that displays several mods will lag severely when scrolling and hovering over previews. as far as i've noticed this applies to the front page, search page, and creators' profiles.

the issue happens on windows 11 when using firefox. it persists with and without extensions and whether i'm logged in or logged out of the site. i have no browsers to test it with other than edge, which does not appear to have the issue. if it's any help, i specifically have hardware acceleration disabled due to issues caused by it when using other sites, but turning it back on does not improve performance and actually makes it way worse to look at as scrolling becomes extremely jittery.

if you need further information on my machine i will gladly provide it.

i wasn't aware of profiles, but switching to a new profile does get rid of the lag. however i checked the settings and the new profile has hardware acceleration enabled by default. it's strange that it doesn't do the jitter like my main profile does, but it lags the same after acceleration is turned off again. i suppose that makes the lack of hardware acceleration the issue?

i'm going to look into those profiles some more. considering the jittering doesn't happen on the new one, it makes me wonder if the issues that made me turn hardware acceleration off in the first place would be solved by switching profiles as well? the main profile i'm using is one that was created when i switched from chrome to firefox a few years back. i wouldn't be surprised if it was somehow so full of garbage data that it started causing problems.

Yeah, sometimes a profile just gets haunted, especially if it's really old. It does seem that HW accel being off is the root cause, though. Unfortunately, I can't really offer to support non-HW-accelerated setups. Things like blur will really slow them down, and I don't want to remove that.
